xxxxxThe above link gives a good basic summary of his personality, and here I'll dive down deeper into it. Koumyou likes to act like a fool, almost entirely to amuse himself, to a lesser degree because he doesn't care what people think, and to a far lesser degree because being underestimated is useful.

xxxxxFor the most part, Koumyou has shut off his ability to care about much of anything. Having watched a few too many friends die gruesome deaths in front of his eyes, he convinced himself that that's just how the world is and there is literally nothing to be done about it but live in the moment. As much as possible, he embraced the singular teaching of Buddhism that he passed on to his pupils:

xxxxx"Hold nothing. If you meet Buddha, kill Buddha. If you meet the patriarchs, kill the patriarchs. Free of all, bound by nothing, you live your life simply as it is."

xxxxxAbsolute detachment, complete impermanence. And he truly thought this was the only way to be, the only way to endure, until one rainy night his adoptive son was targeted in a horrific attack by another former pupil.

xxxxxMuch to his own surprise, Koumyou could not stand by and simply observe his beloved son being torn limb from limb the way he'd had to watch so many others fall. And so, he shielded Kouryuu -- now Genjo Sanzo -- with his own body, and died in his stead.

xxxxxIn the end, even Koumyou Sanzo couldn't simply "Hold Nothing". Kouryuu/Genjo Sanzo is the one exception to Koumyou's detachment, though given the chance he'll still act every bit the fool he ever did before. It's fun. You can't stop him, he outranks you all.

CRAU developments: N/A, I've played him on other games but he's being reset to factory default for this one.

xxxxxKoumyou is the moon. He's associated with the moon, and with moonlight, just as his son is associated with the sun. The sutra he still guards (see item) is the very concept of light itself within all of creation.

Main Motivation: Girls just wanna have fu-un~

xxxxxNo, really. He died. He's dead. His motivation is to have a good time. If his son shows up on the game, this may change (or have another motivation added to it, rather). He'd want to re-connect with Sanzo, and try to impart just how wrong "hold nothing" really was. But for now? Party time.

Spiritual Power - Koumyou has been regarded as one of the more powerful characters in series, even after his death. An important part of that strength lies in his spiritual power. Unlike most monks in the series, Koumyou can channel his chi in various ways without the use of a focusing chant to help him along. This has allowed him to be faster in battle. His chi can be used in a great many ways, though his most common usage of his ability lies in sealing the movement of an individual. However, while he was still a trainee monk, Koumyou demonstrated the ability to channel his chi to shape things in the world around him, creating a dragon out of water to attack an instructor and, with the help of the other trainees, a gigantic muscular snowman to protect their group from an avalanche. Don’t ask; that’s just how he rolls.

Physical ability – Despite being in his forties Koumyou is still quite strong physically, strong enough to grab Ken’yuu (who would later become Ukoku Sanzo) and stop him from attacking Goudai Sanzo. His grip left bruises on his arm from this action. Koumyou claims he doesn’t know his own strength, which might be a bluff. However what is clear is that Koumyou can hold his own in a fight even at his age.

xxxxxOn top of the above, martial arts, magical wards, and meditation skills are all part of the standard Sanzo training. Unarmed combat, combat via the manipulation of strings of beads, and with the use of various weapons from swords to shakujo are all things we've seen in the series. It should also be noted that his home temple had an impressive armory of holy weapons, including Genjo Sanzo's holy banishing gun that fanon tends to assume Koumyou blessed himself. So, he can do that.

xxxxxHe can also blow hella smoke rings when he smokes, and he's good at folding origami. Specialty: paper airplanes.

Item: The Seiten Sutra
xxxxxLong ago, Shakyamuni Tathagata spread forth a sutra across the heavens, from which was born existence and void, light and dark. The earth was created thence, where life and death came to be. Shakyamuni tore apart the sutra into five pieces and entrusted its fate into the hands of the people Below.
xxxxxSeiten Scripture: One of the Founding Scriptures of Heaven and Earth. It manages “holy” or “yang”, and falls under restoration. Unique to the Seiten Sutra, it has healing and restorative powers. It has the power to create light.
xxxxxAll five of the sutras are indestructible, and have a form that drapes over the shoulders of their Sanzo, and a form where it's a scroll. Upon activation, a potentially limitless number of tendrils of the scroll move through the air, guided by the Sanzo it's attached to, and can be used offensively or defensively as the Sanzo sees fit.
